Burdiehouse Terrace, Edinburgh

A new-build residential project comprising two blocks of dwellings, each containing affordable, mid-market and accessible accommodation.

The completed development sits adjacent to the A701 on the southern outskirts of Edinburgh. Viewed from the main road the building presents itself as a series of distinct volumes defined by alternating materials and stepped roof planes, breaking down the overall massing and providing a strong visual rhythm along this key entryway to the city.

A mix of 1 and 2 bedroom flats are provided over 3 storeys. Our brief was to provide a high standard of accommodation befitting the target market set by Home Scotland. We achieved this by careful choice of external materials and internal specification of key fixed furniture and fittings. Slight changes to specification within each flat type allowed successful integration of the different requirements of each tenure to the development as a whole, while maintaining the unity of the architectural treatment and achieving a tenure-blind condition.
